Silvia Furtwängler, 50, was born and raised in Cologne, Germany. She says, “In 2008, I went in the footstep of Roald Amundsen and crossed the Hardangeridda with Sleddogs, a little bit like Amundsen, he went with ski. After this I was convinced that this is the right place to live. In 2008, I emigrated to Norway.” She began mushing 27 years ago and has run a number of European races as well as finishing the 2003 Yukon Quest. She has two adult children, Maurice and Raffaella and a third child, Steven, 15. She is also the "happy grandmother" of four grandchildren. Silvia lists her special interests as hiking, cooking and photography.
